Beautiful day at the forum today, looking around in advance of a visit we will do there with the University of Chicago Graham School. Many new spaces have been opened up to the public this year. The forum is a great historical point of reference, but is beautiful because of the way it activates the imagination. #romeinstituteofliberalarts #grahamschool #uchicago

Close to the end of our trip here, we did a Tintoretto lecture and went to Scuola San Rocco and then stopped by Basilica dei Frari since we were in the neighborhood. Just these two places today were so overwhelming. Not ready to leave. #romeinstututeofliberalarts #smc @smcjanterm

Two day sailing trip on the Venetian lagoon! Wonderful experience and very fun. The students learned how to sail as they learned about how the lagoon shaped Venice’s history. Thanks to our skippers from the IOD Enjoy sailing school in Chioggia. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 #romeinstituteofliberalarts #smc @smcjanterm

After spending last week reading Italo Svevo we had a wonderful windy day in Trieste! The Revoltella museum, delicious food and wine at lunch, the Byzantine church, and hours in various beautiful cafes where Svevo and Joyce would have hung out. Very fun group of students! Love my job. #romeinstituteofliberalarts @smcjanterm

In Padova we had the Scrovegni chapel to ourselves, which was unusual. We were clearly happy about it so the friendly attendant offered to take a picture of our group. Afterwards he said that now he wouldn’t forget us and we would not forget him. #romeinstituteofliberalarts #smc @smcjanterm

In Ca’ Fortuny today. Fortuny’s paintings from Wagner, his erotica, and his luxurious fabrics and fashion design all reflect an interest in Venice as a fantasy world and as a return to the past in which to escape modern life. #romeinstituteofliberalarts #smc @smcjanterm
